Needless to say there was no rest for me after the dark figure disappeared. I laid there in fear until the alarm went off at 6 AM. I welcomed the sunlight like never before. It brought a warm, calming peace over the room. Once out of bed, I decided to block out the previous night’s events and look forward to the beach trip. It’s much easier than you think to block out a traumatic experience. The mind has a way of shutting off the things you just can not face.

By the time I arrived at Jess’s, the old man was a distant memory. Seeing her and knowing that the beach was just a few hours away put my mind at ease. Nothing unusual happened at the beach. For the few days we were there it was as if I never found that Ouija board. No strange noises, no weird phone calls, and most importantly no dark figures waking me at night.

After the beach trip I stayed at Jess’s for a few days. She was going to be moving into a new apartment soon, so I helped her packed up some things. Everything seemed to return to normal. Almost like the last month was just a bad dream
